Choosing my favorite videos for 2020 wasn’t that difficult. I just didn’t shoot many videos this year. Given that everyone was on alert due to COVID and a number of places were closed and we couldn’t really travel outside of Hong Kong, I think I did okay. I have included one video that I edited for my students to study English with. No I do not have the copywrites from Disney for it. I am simply using it to encourage students to learn English and overcome fear. There are a lot of Heffalumps that need to be vanquished. Christopher Robin uses vanquish so I thought I would also. Most of these videos are nature videos. ShaTin 9 is probably my favourite. It took 9 revisions to get to this point. MacLeHose is also really good. There’s some variety here. If you have not seen my 2020 favourite pictures here is a link.
I used to live at Ching Yueng Development Limited in Sha Tin. My everyday commute started with a gate, stairs, and a section of fence that paralleled the MTR. Here’s a time-lapse of it and more.
Here is a beautiful view from the top of my school in MaOnShan. It’s probably higher than the school administration would have wanted me to go 🙂 The video includes a voice over of me talk a bit about MaOnShan, the school and COVID19.
I ran this session of the trail right after school. I was still in my school shoes. It had just rained and the son broke through. My ZhiYun Crane gimbal and camera did a nice job. In effort to honor copywrite laws I have reposted this without Andrew Peterson’s “We Will Survive.” Still this music fits the piece well. See what you think.
The next video is one that I edited for students during one of our in school suspension periods. Actually, the credit should go to Disney. They did a great job on this Christopher Robin film. I love this clip; it makes me laugh every time I watch it. Fear of the unknown can be paralyzing. Indeed, we like the animals sometimes get stuck in not knowing what to do. We need to be more like Christopher Robin and vanquish our Heffalumps.
This next video was shot in 2019, but it got neglected. I didn’t rediscover it and then edit it until maybe the middle of 2020. By hanging my gimbal upside down, I got a more down to earth perspective of nature’s path at White Stone over in Wu Kai Sha. The audio is straight out of the camera so there is some noise from the wind. Previously I had this posted with Phil Keaggy’s music. This remains one of my favorite quiet close by places to go to.
I shot this video along the Ma On Shan beach area in the evening. I used my H&Y neutral density filters and made it a time-lapse. I feel it represents the speed of Hong Kong life. Ideally people would speed up for their work and slow down for their fun, so as to enjoy their fun and make it last longer, but I think for most people here in Hong Kong everything is fast paced.
