Siem Reap Cambodia Stands Out For Amazing Temples

Siem Reap Cambodia Stands Out For Amazing Temples

Getting There and Getting Around Siem Reap, Cambodia is a hot spot for tourist. They used to have direct flights to it to make it easier for people to visit, but then Covid struck and the direct flights were cancelled. It was summer time 2023 when my wife and I visited. As a teacher, I still had summer holiday, but my wife could only get 7 days off. In order to make the most of our time, Tracy and I got off work on Friday, took an evening flight to Bangkok, slept in the airport and then took a short…
A Look at 4 Years of TWGH’s English Summer Camps

A Look at 4 Years of TWGH’s English Summer Camps

Growing up, Summer camp was extremely important to my development. I attended a variety of camps in middle school and in high school. Now as an English teacher in Hong Kong, I am happy to see students participating in TWGH's (Tung Wah Group Hospitals) English camps. TWGH is a large organization. All together there are 18 schools. Each school sends around 8 students, so that means there are approximately 150 students attending. Thankfully The Seventh Day Adventists Academy has been able to host the camp for many years now. In Hong Kong it is rare to see so much grass. Their campus…
End of the Year Globalization Tour

End of the Year Globalization Tour

The English Ambassadors from my school just had a globalization tour field trip in Tsim Sha Tsui. Ms. Kwok, Mr. Wai, and Ms. Wong all worked hard to train the ambassadors. I am proud of the students for sticking with the program and I think it is fitting that the school offered the students an end of the year treat for all of their hard work. Ms. Kwok scheduled for us to meet our tour guide Audrea at the chock- tower in TST at 9:45. Audrea took us to 10 famous tourist spots and explained their significance to us. She…
Construction – The City is Taking Over

Construction – The City is Taking Over

A Chat With Sandy This morning I met a lady from Tsing Tau Village walking her dog, Jackson. I will call her Sandy. I asked Sandy about the construction. She told me they are putting up 22 public housing high rises. I asked her how many floors high they would be. She didn’t know, but from looking at the buildings we could see that many of them are already 25 stories high. Let’s just estimate they go another 5 stories, and the buildings will be 30 stories high. They could build them 40 stories high. We just don’t know but…
TaiTan Trail Has it All Waterfront, Shade, and a Beach

TaiTan Trail Has it All Waterfront, Shade, and a Beach

Recently, TaiTan has been one of my favourite trails. It's in SaiKung East Country Park. I like running there. In the following video, I run the first section of the trail with my GoPro set to Time Wrap. This worked well for the very beginning of the trail, but after I entered the woods it became a little too intense. The path is relatively flat but it is not smooth. In fact, it feels a bit like an obstacle. There are rocks everywhere. So you are constantly moving up, down, and back and forth. Thankfully, all of this is for…
A Home for the Cows to Come Home to

A Home for the Cows to Come Home to

I remember years ago the first time when I met a cow on my hiking path in Hong Kong. I’m sure he thought it was his grazing path. I didn’t argue with him. He was bigger than me. At the time, I was a little afraid. I just wasn’t familiar with cows or more specifically Hong Kong cows. Still that cow seemed very at home on the hiking trail. Fast forward to present day, I live in TinLiu, 田寮. If you are from the US, you don’t really care whether I give you the characters or not, but if you…
2022 Highlights

2022 Highlights

Recently, I was reviewing my favourite pictures from 2021, and I realized that I hadn't made a favourites blog for last year yet. Well, I know this is a little bit late, but I thought I would take this opportunity to share some of the highlights of 2022 by way of both pictures and a few videos. A number of these are scenery pictures. I really like this first one and it is super close to my village house. Tracy calls this my secret garden. I like going back here for quiet and it offers a chance to enjoy nature.…
ChengChau Island is Chill

ChengChau Island is Chill

Looking for a break from city life. Check out ChengChau island. There are plenty of Hong Kong snacks shops to eat at as you meander around the town. There are no buses or taxis; people go everywhere by foot or by bicycle. So life feels a little bit more chill. You can easily rent a boat, go for a swim, eat BBQ or take a walk around the island. It only costs 21 dollars and takes about an hour to get there by ordinary ferry. Of course, if you are in a hurry you can pay a little more go…
Shoot More Keeper Pictures

Shoot More Keeper Pictures

The more you shoot the better you get and the more keeper pictures you will have. Yes, you could also say the more you shoot the more mistakes you will make. This sounds like a, "Is the glass half full or half empty concept." Yes it is, but stick with me. With time your percentage of keeper pictures will increases and you become more confident. I suppose there are people out there who purposefully take their camera with them everywhere because they want to get better, but I think the majority of us shoot pictures and video because we enjoy…
2021 Rediscovering My Favourite Pictures

2021 Rediscovering My Favourite Pictures

A lot can happen in a year and this year is no exemption. Sometimes in the busyness of every day life we forget about our pictures. I usually have a sense of a picture being good or not good when I take it, but not always. Sometimes a picture sits for months and may even be forgotten, but these pictures are worth rediscovering. Anyway, I just want to encourage you to take some time to sort through last years pictures. What did you take that was worth remembering? Here are some of my favourites from 2021. The first several ones…
