Char’s words, “She is the youngest 80 year old I know still stand out to me. She said this as we passed each other in the food line at my mom’s 80th birthday party. It was a special night. Lots of people shared memories about mom and I learned a few things about mom and dad’s early years. It’s important to honor older people who are worthy of being honored. When we do so we bless them and we receive a blessing ourselves. We become more aware of how our lives have been enriched by being connected to them. My mom is a woman of character. A lot of who I am today comes from her. Thanks mom for hanging on to God and fighting for things and people that are important to you. Here’s the video I captured of the event.

Mom Speaks Her Mind

Being an easy going kind of person, this wasn’t always the case. She used to be more afraid what other people would think, but I don’t think she is any more. I think she is a good role model to follow. Of course, we don’t want to offend others. We want to be sensitive to their needs. At the same time, we need to be free to live out who we are. Our friends will value this in us. It’s not always easy balancing who you are with valuing other people’s thoughts and feelings. Sometimes it doesn’t work and we have to take a stand. Here’s one of the photomontages I made for mom’s big event.
