Getting to the Beaches

A few years ago, I went to Sai Wan Beach. At the time, I didn’t know that Sai Wan Beach is one of 4 beautiful beaches located in Tai Long Wan Bay in the Sai Kung Country Park. Also previously I went by public transportation. This time I decided to film a video adventure so I brought my camera gear along on my motorcycle, but didn’t realize the park officials no longer allow buses and private vehicles to enter the park. Therefore, I had an hour and 20 minute walk in front of me before even getting to the trail. On top of that due the rainy weather I had already gotten a late start. None the less, I started following Googles directions walking through the park. I was determined to get there, but I missed one or two taxis. Finally a lady taxi driver took pity on me and stopped. She was kind and helpful. She told me about the need to call for a taxi if I decided to come back that way and offered some phone numbers. She said that the speed boat to Sai Kung Pier would cost 150 dollars. Taking her taxi saved me 40 minutes.

Camera Gear

When I got to the trail it was around 3pm. Boy did the time fly. I decided to mainly focus on filming and narrating the event with my GoPro8 as I didn’t have much time left to experience Sai Wan’s beauty. I also brought along my Panasonic Gh4, some ND filters, and a mono pod. I actually stuck my the mono pod in the water for some of the above pictures. I was able to then slow down the shutter speed to blur the water. I really like the effect.

A Video Adventure of the Experience

This is a GoPro walk / run through some of the beaches. Near the end there is a Cantonese conversation with a couple I met while waiting for the speed boat. I am really grateful I got to go on the speedboat ride. I got the last ticket. I am also grateful for my friend Jason, who used to work here in Hong Kong as a pilot. He spoke very highly of GoPro and was always filming with his. For the longest time, I didn’t take him very seriously, but now I am really starting to like how GoPro helps me capture experiences.
