About 4 years ago, I moved to TinLiu, at that time there were already construction crew workers working on the SaiSha Road Widening project, so this has been a long process. But good things come to those who wait. Now we can finally step back and enjoy the fruit of their labor. It’s great, you can easily walk to your bus stop or drive to your destination without having to consider whether there will be a detour, an inconvenience, some noise, dirt, dust or any other undesirable factor. Check out Construction – The City is Taking Over. Not only that it looks nice and modern as well. The Hong Kong government most have spent lots of money making this modern infrastructure a reality. Now we can finally say, SaiSha Road Widening Project Completed. Here’s what it looked like next to TinLiu about 2 years ago.
The Old is Gone

People Tend to Avoiding Inconveniences
Of course, in the past lots of people used to avoid moving to village houses on SaiSha road because they were considered to be too far from the MTR. Our village house is about a 13 minute walk from the nearest bus stop and then depending on the time of day you might have to wait up to 20 minutes to get a bus to go into town. Nobody wants to wait 20 minutes for a bus and then to wait another 15 minutes to get into town to take an MTR. Thankfully we rarely had to do that, but there were those occasions when the mini buses were full and we had to wait for a bus #99. That’s the price we had to pay for living outside the city. But now things are changing.
The Modern Road and Footbridges Looking Inviting
Unfortunately, with convenience and modernization also comes increased cost and more people. Let’s enjoy the new road and bridges while they are still new and not overcrowded. Here is an overview video shot from a grave stone site by the intersection of TinLiu road and SaiSha road.
The Environment is Changing

The environment is changing. All these buildings and landscaping didn’t exist before. At the end of the above video, you got a glimpse of the high rises. Here’s looking at some of them from the opposite direction. The road you see connects with the main road (SaiSha Road) that they just widened. It’s across the street from TinLiu, where we live. The modern high rises look really nice and a lot of effort is going into luring in buyers and renters. Now it’s more convenient to take a bus to ShaTin, University Station and MaOnShan. Also There is Go Park. It’s been in the news a lot lately. They have done weekend promotionals to get people to visit, play sports, or do a charity walk. I often hear random people talking about Go Park. On the one hand, I welcome convenience. It’s much easier for me and the other villagers to go bicycling into town, walk or take a bus, but on the other, I feel for the animals that have lost their natural habitat. I also wonder how long before these high rises become occupied and our rent prices go up. The below video of the completed SaiSha road widening project was shot from my bicycle. I started out from my village house in TinLiu.
Will the Public Move Come Fill the High Rises
A lot of money has gone into these high rises and investors are anxiously waiting for people to buy or rent. Currently, SaiSha road is a bit crowded on the weekends when people are coming and going from Go Park. What will it be like when these high rises become occupied? Sure, I know that a lot of them will take the bus, but I am sure that a lot of them will also drive cars as well. Who knows in the future we may need a 6 lane widening project. 🙂
