My Experience with YWAM

YWAM (Youth With a Mission) is all over the world and their making a difference in people’s lives. I first learned about YWAM when I was in my teens. Their motto is, “to know God and to make Him known.” I went with a group of young people to Grenada to serve and we ended up severing on at a YWAM base. Grenada is the most Southern ward of the Caribbean islands. It was very tropical and very hilly. I think we did some digging and painting projects. It was about a 3 week trip. There was a lot of singing and it was my first time to eat mango. Very tasty! Here in Hong Kong, Tracy and I found about YWAM through my church, The Yuen Long Vine. They have a branch in Yuen Long as well – YWAM Shanti, so Tracy and I went to some of their activities.

Graduation

This last Wednesday was a meaningful day, 2 Discipleship Training School students, Boaz and Qandeel completed their 5 month training. They had 3 months of lectures, reading and homework and then 2 months of outreach, where they shared their love for Jesus with people from Thailand and Nepal. Our friend, Labi, he is from India is on staff at Shanti and got to go with them and a few others on their trip. Here’s the video I filmed of a meaningful YWAM Shanti Graduation.

The Reason Boaz and Qandeel Joined DTS

As you watch the video, you can hear their enthusiasm. God isn’t just a concept or an idea. He is real and they have encountered His presence in their lives. Both Boaz and Qandeel believe that God called them to join DTS. The song playing in the background echoes the heart beat of YWAM, “Jesus your worth of every tribe and tongue.” Because He is worthy they were willing to go. Boaz is from Hong Kong and Qandeel is from Pakistan, it doesn’t matter where we are from Jesus is worthy of our lives.

Love is Enough?

There is a lot of pain in the world. It’s easy to get discouraged and to find things wrong in our own lives or in other people’s lives. Recently, I watched a video from a videographer in New York City. He confessed that he had not produced any videos for quite sometime because he had been going through depression. But he reminded his audience that love was the answer. He talked about how we all need to believe in ourselves. It sounded nice, but I sort of question whether he really believe if that was really enough. Love is powerful and we all need to know that we are loved, but what is our love anchored in? It’s got to be something bigger than ourselves. Yes, I am a Christian, I want my life to be anchored in Jesus. I don’t share about my love for the Lord nearly enough, but I am really grateful for organizations like YWAM that don’t just talk about Christianity. They actually equip others to go out and invest a part of their lives in sharing the good news with others.
