For our Valentine’s Day weekend, Tracy and I decided to book a two night get away in MuiWo. There were a number of highlights to our trip. The transport, food, accommodations, hiking up to Lantau Peak and picture taking were all pretty cool. We decided to start our adventure off right after work on Friday. We both made our way to Tung Chung and then took the 3M bus to MuiWo, where we spent two nights at the Sea View Hotel. Yes, the rooms are a little bit small, but the price was reasonable, the decorations were contemporary and it was clean. We enjoyed it.

Roman Restaurant

We had dinner that night at the Roman Restaurant. They have both western and Chinese menus and the staff there are used to foreigners. The food was delicious. Tracy and I both like steam fish. The Roman Restaurant has great service, generous portion sizes and a nice environment. Tracy recounted how maybe 3 years ago and the waitress helped us get what we wanted to order and save some money in the process. They are nice people.
Hiking to Lantau Peak

The next morning, we enjoyed the Sea View restaurant’s free breakfast (it’s included in the room booking price) and we took the bus #2 to Ngong Ping. For the hike up to Lantau Peak we passed the Big Buddha, walked through a large gate and kept walking. There are a lot of steps and the trail just keeps going up. Being the weekend there were a good number of people out hiking it. Some of them were walking up some of them were walking down. A few of them were even running. I saw many of them were hiking with poles. Everyone was friendly. When I asked one couple what it was like at the top. The man told me that they didn’t make it to the top. I felt bad for them, but that’s the reality. Not everyone is up for it. Tracy and I walked and walked. Her leg was starting to give her some trouble. We stopped rested, stretched and ate snacks. Finally she told me to go on ahead on my own. She needed more time to rest, but she didn’t want to stop me from going to the top. So I continue on and shot a brief video clip from the top. It was pretty spectacular. On the way down we saw the fog role in as well.

Supporting Each Other

Lantau Peak is the second highest peak in Hong Kong. Starting the trail off at Ngong Ping by the Big Buddha is the easiest way up. However, don’t get the idea that it is easy. I guess easy is relative. I saw one hiker who wore a shirt that said. I eat marathons for breakfast. I’m sure he thought it was easy. We all have different strengths and weaknesses. I was proud of my wife Tracy for recommending the trail and doing it with me, but it was a stretch for her. She showed me a picture of her hiking it more than 20 years ago when she was still a nursing student. I’m sure it was easier on her knees back then. I helped Tracy navigate the rocks by giving her my hand. Marriage is about supporting each other. Happy Valentine’s Day Tracy. Yes, it took us a long time to get up and down the mountain, my arms were sore, and lots of people passed us, but that’s okay. We did it together and it was rewarding. Maybe you can relate. Life is a journey and it’s best to do it with others. Yes, they will slow you down at times and at other times you will slow them down but that’s okay. It is all apart of the journey.
