I had a very memorable Christmas holiday in Lijiang, China back in December of 2019. Yes, that was back before covid really exploded. I first published this piece in February of 2020 but had problems with it so I decided to republish it. Lijiang is still beautiful and these videos are well worth watching. This is what I wrote back then. Aside from the fresh air, and beautiful scenery, I really enjoyed being with close friends. David and I first met back in 2006, so we had a lot to talk about. A lot has happened for him and his wife. They now have 4 kids that range from about 6 months to almost 6 years old, so there was never a dull moment. There is something special about celebrating Christmas with young children. Their surprise and delight around the lights, presents, Christmas tree, and Christmas story should really inspire us. We opened Christmas presents on 3 separate occasions and it never got old for them. Lijiang is amazing. Unfortunately, Tracy couldn’t come on this trip, as she only had a few days off for the Christmas holiday.

Old Town is a Must See

Time Lapse of the Beautiful Scenery

Dragon Park

I think Dragon Park is a must see. It’s a short walk over from the North Gate of Old Town. Yes, you do have to pay an entrance fee. I think it was 50 RMB, but it was definitely worth it. The temperature was cold and there was still snow on Snow mountain. So I blended in well with the other tourists who were taking lots of pictures. The sky was very clear. I don’t think I could have asked for a better day. Attacked to the park is Elephant Hill. If you’re up for a hike, there are different look out points along the way up that offer a nice view.

David Shares About Snow Mountain

As you can tell from these clips, I am a Casting Crowns and Third Day fan. It was five years ago that I made these videos. At that time, I wasn’t concerned about copy rights. My friends no longer live in Lijiang, so I don’t know when or if I will make it back there. I’m sure that it is different now. China keeps developing.
