Watoto is back in Hong Kong. If you want to see clips from last years concerts click – Watoto Children’s Choir Shares From Their Hearts. This year’s theme is “Better Days.” I think lots of us are believing for better days. Tracy and I attended their first concert at St. Andrew’s Primary School. You know if the people of Uganda, Africa were rich you might get away with thinking – “Of course, these kids are happy.” They have all the modern conveniences a person could ask for, but that’s not true. These kids have lost their birth mothers and fathers. They are poor, and they are dependent on others for help. Yet they have real joy. In contrast, too often kids from well developed countries are not happy. What’s wrong with this picture? Oh by the way, my friend, Calvin from Uganda requested I say, Uganda is a rich country with poor citizens. If you want to know more about his statement. Watch the video interview below.

Where Does Their Joy Come From

First, let’s be clear wealth can not buy you happiness, and being poor doesn’t mean that you will automatically be happy. So what is the source of Watoto’s joy and success. Listen to them sing. They definitely are not shy about what they believe. They are bold about their faith in God. I love their energy. They sing and they dance with excellence. It is top notch. I think it’s a good trade. Richer countries like Hong Kong give into Watoto’s ministry and at the same time receive back a blessing as they watch the children and adults sing and dance.

Watoto’s First Fall 2024 HK Concert

Last year, I had the chance to talk with one of Watoto’s member’s Calvin. We talked about Uganda being a poor country. Calvin acknowledges that they are poor but he thinks that that is due to corruption in leadership. He points out that they are actually quite prosperous in some areas. We talk about how the gospel of Jesus Christ brings transformation to people’s lives. Oh and also Calvin shares his personal testimony. He looks much better on camera than I do. I know there are things that we could have done to have made the lighting better on this shot. Also in the above Watoto video the camera image stabilization was turned off – oops. Obviously these are the kinds of mistakes we try to avoid. I did what I could in post. Let me know what you think. Anyway, God is at work here, and I didn’t want to let this video’s imperfections to stop me from bringing it to you.

Calvin’s Sharing

Everyone wants their life to count for something beyond themselves. It just makes good sense to partner financially with organizations like Watoto that are making a difference in kids lives. If you get a chance go to one of their concerts, I think you will be glad you did.
