Hard to believe the summer holiday is over. I had 2 and a half weeks. Most of the teachers at my school didn’t get that long. They were and most likely still are busy preparing for the new school year. For the time being, we will be going back to half day classes with the students. Teachers will be required to put in full days at school. So we are transitioning again. There is a lot of uncertainty. In honor of this transition, I decided to take an entirely new hike with a beach swim at TaiTan.

Hong Kong summers are extremely hot, so I didn’t want something that would be too long or too steep. Tai Tan Nature Trail was a perfect pick for me. The trail meanders back and forth along the coastline of Sai Kung West Country Park, so the view is beautiful. In addition, the trail passes by 2 beaches. Yeahhh, I like beaches. I was the only one on one of the beaches. It was very nice. The water temperature was really comfortable, and the sand was soft to walk on. Lastly, the public transportation was pretty convenient. So I will definitely be going back there again.

At the end of last summer holiday, I decided to check out San Wan beach. I wasn’t too far from San Wan today, but I have to say Tai Tan is a completely different experience. I saw only a few people on the trail today. San Wan would have had a lot more people. Both places are beautiful, but I think it would be missing the point for me to say that one was more beautiful than the other. San Wan is more well recognized. It contains 4 beaches and is grand, but today’s trail/beach experience had a unique character too it. I am glad that I got to experience it and to see another perspective of HK’s trails and beaches. Here’s the video from my earlier SanWan beach visit.

Last Summer San Wan Experience

I wonder if this new school year at Wong Fung Ling College will have some similarities. We are facing the possibility of having to reduce our class sizes and we may even have to let go of some of our teachers. Things will definitely be different in some ways, but still special and worthy of being treasured.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
