There is so much that could be said about the importance of play. Adults miss something when they haven’t had enough play in their childhood. They can become too regimented almost like machines. No one wants to become this way, but life, relationships, and work can have a way of hardening us. We have to be tough to make it in the real world. Right? I think like Christopher Robin (from the movie Christopher Robin) sometimes we need to defeat our own heffalumps. Stay young make time to play

Christopher Defeats the Heffalump

I love the section of Christopher Robin where the animals don’t believe that Christopher is the real Christopher Robin. After all, a lot of years have pasted and he looks different now. He has grown up. To convince his old playmates that he is indeed Christopher Robin, he decides he has to defeat the heffalump. Of course, there is no such thing as a heffalump and it’s all a show, but the animals don’t know that. Actually Eeyore is the first one to realize that A – There is nothing there and that B – Christopher Robin really is Christopher. He recognizes him by his play. He says to him, “Christopher Robin, It’s you, playing again.” Then after defeating the make believe heffalump, Christopher returns to the other animals declaring his victory. They congratulate him. I plan to use this video and others like it with my students at WFLC. The first play through is at normal speed.

What is the Heffalump in Your Life

It’s a nice reminder of the value of play in our lives. Christopher actually found who he was again through playing and the animals helped him do it. Play has the power to help people relax and not be too serious. It’s a necessary part of life. What was the heffalump in Christopher Robin’s life? What might the heffalump represent in your life? Where can you go to get support?
